Thisara Perera

Another great all rounder from St Joseph's College is Thisara Perera who first started playing for College first XI under Angelo Mathews in 2006, like Angelo, Thisara excelled in all disciples in Cricket, every Josephian will remember his knock of 92 with 8 sixes (most of them going out of the Oval)in his first Bigmatch, and also with the Ball in his three Big matches he has claimed 5 wickets in an innings in all three years. He was a instant success at school Cricket and the spectators enjoyed his big hitting.

He, too joined Colombo Colts Cricket Club to pursue his career and played in the Under 23 and Premier Cricket tournaments and has been in terrific form for his club, he too was in the Championship winning team of 2009 and was in and out of the Club team in 2011 due to National commitment.

He is an attacking bowling all rounder, Thisara began his career primarily as a bowler, opening the bowling for the Under-19s. He turned in noteworthy performances in the tri-nation tournament in Sri Lanka in July 2007 and in the youth Test against India in Colombo the following month. Those performances earned him a call-up to the U-19 squad for the World Cup in Malaysia in 2008. He replaced Angelo in his maiden national call-up during Sri Lanka's tour of India in 2009 as an emergency replacement when Angelo was injured. His aggressive batting in an ODI against India in Mirpur helped Sri Lanka pull off a win in a pressure situation.

Thisara has been in and out of the National team but age is on his side and will have more years to give his mite for National cricket, he too was picked for the Cricket world cup 2011 and played in the Final of the tournament and had a quick 22 not out and hoisting the last ball of the innings for a six off Zaheer Khan.
